Money? Insurance? Help please!

Hi :)

Just after a little bit of advice on money and insurance ready for our departure on Thurs.

Companies to use for 1-way travel insurance for me and the hubby and also pet migration insurance?

We want to transfer some money to our NZ bank account, who should we use? Just a few grand (£) to buy a car when we arrive and travelling/living expenses for a couple of months.

Advice much appreciated :D

Depending on what credit card you have and whether you brought your flights on the credit card. You may find you have travel insurance. Take a peek at the small print or give CC company a call.

Your pets should be covered by the carrier that you used to transport them.

You UK banks can do a transfere to your bank here in NZ for a fee of about £40 you will need all your bank account details here including 'swift code'.

Why not bring the cash carry it on a money belt or neck pouch?

Hi, good luck with your move on Thursday, you must be so excited and nervous at the sme time! :fingerscrossed:

We used Atlas Travel Insurance for our one way travel insurance from Uk to NZ, although I think the Post Office do a good travel insurance deal for people migrating where they cover you for 30 days after you arrive - probably best to check their website.

We did not bring any animals so can not help there, sorry.

For transferring money, we set up our NZ bank account with ASB before we left and then used them for the first couple of transactions but we now use HiFx who are very good and do not charge you a fee for transfers (probably included in there exchange rate) but still give good exchange rates. Again look on their website for more details, you can also see what the exchange rate is of the HiFx website.

Hope this info helps and good luck

As others have said, pretty sure our insurance was on our CC, definitely worth checking.

Our 2 dogs were insured with the carrier who were Airpets.

We too used Hifx and have done since when we've bought money over.

Happy travels. Oh and have a flutter for me in Vegas!

If you have PR then the medical costs are reduced and so you might not need as much in the way of cover, ours came through about 5 weeks after we arrived. Good luck.
I posted this in 2007, I could look up the company we used but it would take a while to find the paperwork.
Team Embo may know if they took that advice - Letton Percival were the main insurance broker for containers and <search> is your friend on that one......their number is on this forum somewhere :-)
Hell, here are their details:
