Minimum wage

from the 1st April 2016 will be increased by 50cents to $15.25.

Please pass on to anyone you may know on low wages and make sure they are at the minimum now, $14.75 and that they know it should legally increase from the 1st.

Re: Minimum wage

How can it be legal to pay people at that rate? Should be at least $20/hr.

Re: Minimum wage

yeh tell me about, I worked for a place that didn't even pay the minimum wage and never offered Kiwisaver, until I looked into it. needless to say I soon left.

They are also debating the living wage, this is what they think Companies should pay to enable people to live but not something they can or will enforce.

I said to an employment agency that I'd work for the minimum wage if that's all that was available. Job offers have yet to be forthcoming.

That's just the tip of the iceberg of my constant/continual job search.

Living wage has been announced at $19.80, so a far way to go

not far enough if you ask me, I cant abide benefit scroungers and the nearer it gets to the living wage
the more dole bludgers there will be, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool

I'm all for paying people decent money, but where does it start and where does it stop? If the minimum wage was $20/hr. New Zealand couldn't export as much, so you'd have more unemployed.

Unless people from other countries get paid decent wages, or are prepared to pay more for certain products, $20/hr is unfortunately unrealistic.

I was talking with a buddy from India about living costs, the minimum wage here and it blew his mind. He reckons their bottom wage is about NZ$150 a month, But I suppose it's all relative with their vastly lower cost of living.
