Re: mild winter??????????
Not mild enough for me. I think I was born and raised in the wrong country. I am not a hardy kiwi.
I'm a complete wuss when it comes to winter. I am strongly suspicious it was a real estate agent who discovered this country and upon getting here realised that "Last Stop to Antarctica" didn't have the same ring as "South Pacific".
Yes. Kiwi. I love it here but I hate being cold.

It's not so much being cold, hell I've worked in cold conditions back home, so cold it made my finger bleed, it's the coming home to a f'ing cold house that stays cold, that gets me.

That gets me too. Thankfully I get home around 9:00pm so the house has been warmed by someone by then!
I do hate it though.

You must be a really great sparkie if you haven't worked out how to use timer switches yet

Agh, that must be where I am going wrong, I need to get a sparkie to put a timer on the log burner so it comes on automatically in the morning. Now all I need to get is an automatic log chopper.

Mmmmm. I haven't got my head around how it can be warmer outside than in the house here yet.

Youd drive up to your house and be able to watch the heat disappearing out of all the crevaces.

Re: mild winter??????????
I can only speak from my experience in Auckland but Kiwi winters are definitely milder in degrees than the UK but it can feel different to you because of the damp in the air and the sheds that pass for housing with no insulation, double glazing or rudimentary heating.
On the plus side, there are far more sunny days even in mid-winter here and not so much of the grey.
That said, I'm outta here for better climes!

Re: mild winter??????????
whereas
Welly's winter's Bitter(ly) Cold. It's not even comparable to Auckland... ....
In fact, Auckland has ideal temperature for healthy human being (ppl don't acknowledge that)- I wouldn't look for better climes, seriously.
frankly speaking, the weather in Welly is very BAD: one of the extreme weather conditions "God awful wind". My dad hates it. He is quite happy escaping stormy Welly though. also he is wondering why I am _still_ here.....
btw, I love Vancouver.... It's a much better city than Welly.. wish I could live there if I had a job...
