Default migration and employment agents

After visiting the Emigration Expo at Sandown last weekend, we've decided its really time to start the ball rolling for a move to New Zealand. To start we'd love to know if anyone has any recommendations for emigration agents and job agencies. Hubbies a probation officer and it seems we need a job offer to secure a visa. Any help is much appreciated.

I would definately say do not use an emigration agent - the whole process is expensive enough without paying someone to do stuff that you can easily do for yourself.
have you found the NZIS website - its full of information and really straight forward in its advise - www.immigration.govt.nz
There is an online points checker so you can see what your points are like without a job offer and you can then make a judgement about submitting your EOI with or without a job offer.
You can then check the online long term skills shortage list - if you're on there, make contact with relevant professional organisations over there for guidance on who to contact re: work.
also check out some of the online job sites - there are quite a few good ones.
www.stuff.co.nz is a good place to start.
good luck

Hiya

I would agree with that, find a job through the internet and email, that's what we did (nurses though, not probation/prison officers)

Then log your EOI yourself.

Hi
We were very very close to using an agent - even went for the first appointment as we felt this was such a big step for us and very important as well that we wanted it to be done "right"!

After reading people's comments on various different forums we decided to go it alone without using an agent. It was extremely daunting to begin with and we worried about everything but so far so good.

We lodged our EOI with no problems, it was accepted after 2 weeks, then hubby was offered a job in Auckland, I emailed NZIS to tell them of the job offer and the same afternoon received an email back from our Case Officer. We received our ITA within 5 days. We've just got back (literally 1/2 an hour ago!) from having our medicals and waiting for us on the doormat was a letter we had been waiting for from the Electrical Workers Registration Board in NZ to say that they will provide hubby with a provisional licence once he's completed a H&S course.

We are so excited as that's the letter that our CO said we need from them! Now we just need the medical report returned and we can lodge our ITA!!!!

To sum up: if we can do it without an agent then anyone can! As I said before we were worrying about every little step but that's how you have to take it - one step at a time. Once you've done one bit then you can move onto the next. Use the people on the forums as much as you can - a lot of people have gone through all this already, lots are going through it and lots are like you - thinking about it.

Save your money to use on replacing things that you might need to leave behind!

Hope that helps and good luck.

I dont recommend using a migration agent. We nearly did and the quote was £3000 and that didnt include the fees! We then spoke to a very honest lady who worked at a firm of accountants and she told us to "do it ourselves"... she offered to take our money from us if we insisted but told us we didnt need her. She was right... OH did it all online, it took a few evenings to complete but we did it fine. It went through very quickly as he had a job offer, and our ITA was approved in 2 days... we sent it registered post on the tuesday and we had a phone call on the thursday telling us to go book the flights!!

Agree with everything everyone else has said, you can do it yourselves no prob and you need every saved cent for over here. Even if you used an agent you would still have to provide all the paper evidence and do all the work digging it out.
