There was a TV programme about it as well, what it didnt say is that some of the cops actually went back to the Uk finding NZ lifestyle simply wasn't there for them.
If they live down south of England, huge house, worth a fortune, yes they can come here, work for peanuts and still be better off.
However, if circumstances are different, smaller house in Uk, less equity to bring out, children, one salary (reduced) then things are not as rosy as is made out.
As for cost of living being cheaper here, I have yet to find that.
It does give a false impression to people that they can all achieve the same lifestyle when in truth, few can.
