I have applied for all 5 of us. Why not? They reckon a 6% return divi wise and if you are in for 2 yrs you get a loyalty bonus. But it is like betting on a horse at the end of the day...I like a little gamble. Especially when I reckon the odds are with you rather than agin. Anyone know if they are a shower of shite and to be avoided??

I am looking at it closely, I will probably put in for some but not a huge amount.

I am old enough to remember the similar exercise that the UK government did during the 1980s and take a lot of positives from that experience.

There are a couple of things I think that are unique to the NZ experience which make me cautious:

1. Potential for Treaty of Waitangi claims
2. The government will still own 51% of the company and will pass law to prevent anyone else from owning more than 10%. That means that the government will still have 100% of the control of the company and that makes me nervous.

Registered but I'll have to have a proper look and see what shares are likely worth, if it's going cheap I'm in.

Empty dams and collapsing prices don't look promising but then even if I bought I wouldn't hold because it's just not a business I like.

Quite a few experienced investors think Contact Energy is better value.

This is worth a read if you're serious about investing in Mighty River

Oversubscribed and overvalued but I can't turn down the chance to make a quick buck in the IPO (as things stand). Obviously I wouldn't hold.

Out, won't be bothering. Having a mortgage money's best going to paying that off, and having Kiwi Saver anyway no doubt some of that will find it's way to MRP shares.
Not looked in detail, but seem's a tad risky - Waitangi treaty claims, plus the Aluminium Works which account for 15% of total power seem cert to close in a few years time.
That plus price not being defined, you wouldn't buy a car not know the selling price would you?

Labour just managed to make it a lot less appealing:

Hopefully the price will be set close to $2.35. Personally I don't see a huge amount of value at anything much above this especially for overseas investors and institutions. There are higher and more reliable dividend yields from many European and UK power companies and with the NZ$ being perceived as 15% overvalued the attraction of MRP outside of the Southern hemisphere may be limited.

That said there should still be something in it for short term stags.

We bought a couple of k$ worth just out of interest and to show support for the idea, which I think is a sound one. Also to stick two fingers up at the red/green losers who are trying to wreck the scheme

We put some money in too.

I did seriously think about scaling back a bit after the Labour and Green parties threw their hand grenade into the mix but once I had calmed down I went ahead just to spite them.
