Re: Mental Health Nurse to emigrate to New Zealand or Australia
Hi Rusty,
Sorry to jump in on the original post but wondering if the offer of a chat might be extended to My gf and I. We have recently decided to relocate to New Zealand and have decided that Auckland should be the place to try first. My gf is an Intensive care nurse (Also in Birmingham) and I'm an operating department practitioner/Anaesthetic technician. We have made contact with an agency but notice you say its not required?!!? We, like the original poster, have many questions for example the cost of the whole process, inclusive of professional registration, to flights, to visa applications, and a few others like pay etc!! If ya happy to PM us with a skype or email address that would be great. Not able to PM you sorry as we have only just joined and need to have three posts before we can. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Gibbons, you might need to up your post count to receive pms too- just hop around and find a few threads you're interested in to add a couple of replies too. Or start your own thread and ask some of the questions- there's also a specific nursing forum (though not specific to NZ) down below vvvvv
cheers again.

My partner is earning less as a nurse here than she was in the UK, but she was a band 6 specialist in the UK and here she is working as something more basic. The difference isn't huge though.
You'll need to look at the cost of living in detail, not just the basic $'s compared to the UK. It's not straightforward to compare. An NHS pension for example is good, you won't get one here. Housing markets and houses in NZ, the UK and I assume also in Australia are quite different.
I don't know much about Australia, but I'm pretty sure Darwin is tropical. i.e. it probably gets quite wet at times.
It certainly won't get sun 24/7 they turn it off at night....
One thing that does bother me about Australia is that it seems to spawn a lot of proselytisers that hang around in the expat forums for other countries trying to convert people
(I sometimes wonder if there is some kind of brainwashing going on.... or maybe monetary incentives of some kind)
