Default medical cover in UK

Hi all,
have booked a trip back to the UK for July. While having a coffee with a friend who had just returned from a trip she said it cost her £60 to see a doctor in the UK as we are not covered by the NHS having left the country. I just assumed that I would be covered being a UK citizen am I wrong? I thought UK/NZ had a rreciprocal agreement?
Do I need to get travel insurance then?

Look here:

http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/englan...rom_abroad.htm

Explains it in a straightforward way...

The NHS website says this about the reciprocal agreement with NZ

"Essential documents

UK passport.
What's free

Dental treatment for people aged under 16 and public hospital inpatient treatment.
What you'll need to pay for

Outpatient hospital treatment.
Treatment at a doctor's surgery.
Prescribed medicines.
Dental treatment."
