Similar deal with the Treaty of Waitangi--not one New Zealand immigration official even mentioned it--was 26 yrs ago tho--that was before it became the fastest growing industry in the country.(And crime of course)

Have you not noticed "THE cupboard" in most houses- stocked to bursting with cans of food; candles; batteries; water etc. It's the 'Survival stock'.
Lot if not most tower office blocks in Wellington CBD have 3 litre bottles of water under each desk- I was told it was in case the building came down and you became trapped at least you had water until you were rescued- no doubt at all about being rescued, so that's alright.
First big one we experienced was 2004 about 8am- both still in bed. The brass bed-head banged and rattled so much it nearly made a hole in the wall. We shot out of bed and raced for the door jamb in room corner-Had been told it was the strongest area of a room. In 37 years of married life I can honestly say it was the first time the earth had moved for either of us in some time!

Re: Massive quake hits Southern NZ
Quote from NZ Herald
"A series of tremors has also hit the Matata area in recent days, some of them above 4 on the Richter scale..
This morning's earthquake is the biggest to hit the New Zealand mainland this year, said Mr Field."
Make that the 2nd biggest, there was a 5.7 in Bay of plenty tonight
Seems to be quite a bit happening at the moment, let's hope it's not leading to something bigger.

That swam of quakes has been going on in Matata for months now, once you get a event that everyone notices then suddenly the reporters wake up and report every little bump, gurgle, grind they can find and beef up the story.
Last week a work collegue of ours took the kids for a few days sking they stayed in National Park first they knew of the eruption of Ruapehu was the next morning. The only thing that disturbed them that night was the Fire Siren going off and a Helicopter landing on the School Playing Field near the Hotel. They only found out the next day it was picking up the injured Climber.
Just reading the GNS website about the one in the BOP last night supposedly bigger than the one in the morning but much deeper so only 13 people reported it compared to 2000 for the one in Hamner. Just shows you the just because they are big other factors play in as to if you notice it.
