Maruia springs

Off for a jaunt from Dunners to CHCH, then Kaikoura, hopefuly to see the dolphins and whales, if they are about, then drive back down to Maruia springs, for a relaxing time in hot thermal pools, has any one been to Maruia springs ??

Beautiful surroundings and building, but very isolated in the middle of Lewis Pass. There isn't anything else around apart from Hanmer (30-45 minutes away). Nice if it is the pools you are after, although if you want to go out for dinner it is quite a drive!

Yep booked into the hotel on site, bit of R&R, the pools are open 24hr, and the resturants doesn't sound that bad, will take some ancks for daughter if she not keen on food there.

We were hoping to get to Nelson, but in 4/5 days a big drive, so we going to Kaikoura , for one day/night and then drive to Maruia springs, then back to CHCH of Timaru before home, been to Hanmer sprins in winter, very pricyfor what it was, even custard squares that you get at Pleasant Point for $2.80 were $7 at Hanmer:mad:

When daughter is asleep there are private hot pools for hire mmm:thumbsup:

Hanmer is great , but woth all good places near CHCH its busy and expensive, custard squares you gte down the road at Pleasant Point, awesome and made with fresh cream and milk, best in country. I could buy a whole box cheaper than ones at Hanmer.

Though we would go to the other ones, to see what they are like.

The springs there are great - really raw and basic when compared to Hanmer, and all the better for it. We were there just after a snow fall - it was brilliant and we really enjoyed it. You'll have a great time I'm sure.

The drive from Kaikoura to Blenheim is just lovely and a further 15/20 mins from there is Piction and the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds. It took us 1.5 hours to go from Kaikoura to Blenheim, it is worth the drive for the scenery. The Queen Charlotte Drive from Picton to Havelock is just beautiful. We just came back from there spending the Easter weekend at Picton. This weekend we are off to Hanmer Springs for a free weekend we were given as a pressie at Christmas so we are looking forward to that. I would say if you are driving to Maruia Springs from Kaikoura it would be the same distance probably to get to the sounds. We have heard good and bad about Maruia Springs but have not been yet. Don't forget if you have the entertainment book there is a discount voucher for Maruia Springs. Have a good time whatever you do.
