Many Primary School Teachers here ?

Hi,

Emma is a (very good !) primary school teacher who is currently finishing off further qualifications and has recently started management roles which she hopes to continue in NZ.

We (or should I say, I !) are having a few concerns about the lower wages out there and wondered how this would effect her possible wage ?

Obviously in the UK teachers get a reasonable wage, though not more than enough than maybe they should.

Would be really helpful to get an insight in to what she should expect job and wage wise. I've done a search but there didn't seem to be anything quite what we are after.

If it makes any difference, she will be 30 when we arrive.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, my wife's a primary teacher she's always on this site if this helps, shows all the latest vacancies and I'm sure you can find pay scales on one of the links. Think it was on Teach NZ. :)

A top of scale primary teacher gets around $58k. That's without management points. I think that's with around 8 years experience - A starting teacher is on $40ish depending on qualifications, so budget somewhere between the two, depending on years service.

You will also get a relocation grant of $2000 after a few weeks, and a further $2k after 20 weeks (the amount may have changed now, but that's what it was when I came over last year).

The precise terms of employement, including a detailed breakdown of salaries is herehttp://www.minedu.govt.nz/index.cfm?...xparentid=1013

thanks, thats helped us a lot.

with me needing to seek a new career path, or any job at all for that matter, it was important we knew emma would hopefully be earning enough for us to survive if i wasn't working.

thats eased some of our worries.

Hi, if Emma is going to be your main applicant as a teacher, you'll have to get her qualifications verified then become a member of the New Zealand Teachers Council. It'll speed the process up if you get this going before you submit EOI. The NZ teaching council will issue a number to go on your ITA without it you won't be able to use the points you may think you have from pool selection. :)
