Makita Lithium - Ion batteries and Paslode Batteries

Makita Lithium - Ion batteries and Paslode Batteries
Hi all,
I'm in the process of air freighting my tools out to Christchurch in the next week or so. The freighters wont send out batteries for my tools.
I have batteries for my Paslode Nail guns and the airline have said I can take them with me as part of my carry on luggage but its a big no on my Makita Lithium - Ion batteries.
I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem? and if anyone knows if I can buy new batteries in Christchurch when I get there?
