Making new friends!??!
 

How has everyone found it making new friends in New Zealand?

I moved from Yorkshire to Mt.Maunganui 3 weeks ago with my boyfriend and his family. I am only 22 and im used to socialising alot with my friends back home, but now im increasingly feeling like im never going to find anyone to have a laugh with! I know ive only been here a short while, maybe things pick up in summer i dont know? I know getting a job would be a good way to meet people but i am starting a web based business from home, so i dont think i will have time to go out to work.
Any advice, or does anyone know of anyone in the Tauranga, mount maunganui area who has moved from England?

Hey Georgia,

It will happen, wherever you live, whatever you do, wherever in the world. Give it time. 3 weeks isn't long.

There was a thread on here not long ago with people in the same area with the same problem - I'll find it for you. Give me 5 mins.

We're really old but coming out in January hopefully!! No luck by then we'll drag you out and show you how it's done!! :beer:

Hi there, we were over there yesterday!! Did you enjoy the busking competition?!! Some of them were pretty good - I was well impressed with the two young lads :)
Can't help with socialising but you mentioned somewhere we have actually been!!
We have been here less than 3 weeks and yes, going to work is about the best way to start meeting people.

Get yourself down to the surf club or the papamoa pub - they were always full of good crack and always made to feel welcome. Hold on if your 22 your probably also about the same age as my female cousins????

Will be over in a few weeks must get in touch with them - they will know the best places to get into the local social scene.

My generation it was bonfires on Matakana island (surf ski across or borrow dads boat).
