Main reason why the best talent is underpaid in New Zealand
Most ICT Recruiters in NZ function as robots and/or puppets with very poor "people marketing", pay rate negotiations and convincing skills - still waiting to interact with someone who can change the given opinion.

I think it's a consequence of the perpetual management crisis. They just don't know how to recruit, train or retain talented managers or executives. Need a lesson from the Jack Welch school of business .

It sounds to me you have just got sour grapes because you can't walk into a highly paid position with no experience or qualifications.

I regard my OH as having the very best of talent in his field. He has over 30 years. A 'field' we all need. It takes 4 years to qualify and another 2 years to be considered professional.
When you come here, with all of the above + 5 years of exp, it takes an exam + other practical proof to show you know what you know. It then takes a further 2 exams and more practical stuff to get you to where you were in this field of knowledge before you came here.
His last years money $48K gross I'd be laughing if it wasn't hysterical.

Only a Genius can rate someone as excellent, good, average or poor - almost all genius kiwis are now working outside New Zealand and the local kiwis only care about " Team Fit " - all they require is someone with a pair of hands to do the job and a pair of legs to reach the office.

So when such a vague "reason" is grossed up to talk about "NZ recruiters", "NZ businesses" or the "NZ job market", it means even less I'm afraid...IMHO

Hmmm, trouble is lack of "team fit" is also used as a reason the world over for declining offers to candidates where employers want to be cagey about the actual reasons, so it being quoted doesn't necessarily tell you much about the real reasons behind being declined (talking generically here).
