thankyou very much, i will tell paul, he hardly drinks any alcohol but i will tell him to drink more water etc, he takes tablets for a hiatus hernia - (oemprazole) so i am wondering if it is these that are causing the levels to be high, he is going to check on monday

Hi there!!!

Last year my Liver Function tests (LFTs) and OH were up. I had raised GTT and ALT hubby raised Bilirubin.

Dont despair it wont be a problem. They found my hubby had Gilberts syndrome (not a problem needed GP cover letter)

I had to go and see a Gastro specialist and got diagnosed very mild fatty liver, dont drink much but I am overweight

The end story was good and we have been here 10 months!!!!

I know its soooooooo hard but dont worry. Do you know what specific enzyme was raised and at what level? Pm me if you want.

LOL

Get on with some work, missus

As Dawn said, try not to worry to much, loads of people who have made it to NZ have had queries on their liver function tests. NZIS like to be 'thorough' in their approach

Good Luck

If oemprazole is the same as omeprazole, it is generic Prilosec.

Mild to marked changes in LFT (liver function test) results are a known side effect of this drug. He should see the doctor who prescribed the Prilosec and review the test results; sometimes the LFTs will return to normal if the Prilosec is stopped, very *rarely* there may be something going on with the liver.

If you don't still have it, the chemists should be able to tell you precisely which drug it is and provide a detailed report from the manufacturer regarding side effects/adverse reactions.

hi everyone

thankyou very much for all of your help, i really appreciate it and i know that paul does, even though he never posts on here.

he has made an appoinment with our GP today to talk to him before he goes for the further tests on monday. he is not really worried but just a bit peeved that if it is the tablets he has been taking them for years, and the doctors wont do anything about his condition just say keep taking the tablets.

thankyou again, ill let you know how he gets on

Good luck with the GP appoinment.
My LFT showed high results - I'd had my gall bladder removed several weeks before that which affected the liver and cholesterol count and I think I'd taken omeprazole too. I did a repeat blood test 6 weeks later and all was normal. I paid the GP £18 to write a 2 line letter stating I was now within the normal range of Liver and cholesterol count and doing all I could. NZIS accepted this and we are off to NZ in 2 weeks!

hi jacky g here......i think there must be a bit of leeway on liver function tests....as i have gilberts syndrom......which is a benine liver condition, but can become really quite jaundices sometimes, hangovers, sickness stress can all cause this........

my bilirubin count can be mad at times, but the doctor just put a note in stating this and there was no questions asked.....gl

Hi everyone

i was quite a heavy drinker, i used to drink 11 cans of lager a day and not eating anything, and i became very sick, i had jaundice and severe weakness and vomiting bile and, this went on for 2 weeks till i decided to go to the doctors, so he decided to send me for emergency blood tests, the next morning i got a phone call saying i had very high abnormalities in the liver and that he is sending a emergency ambulance. In hospital i was first told to stop drinking straight away which i did and never looked back. the only treatment i had in hospital was vitamin c drips and vitamin b and thiamine tablets and in 7 days with the drinking stopped my blood tests were stable and i was allowed home, but i still have to go for more tests for hepatitis and autoimmune. i got out of hospital 2 weeks ago and i am now eating well and have stopped the drinking all together.
