OK, I've been on here for a while now and still cannot do links to previous threads or websites. I tried the other day and whilst it looked good on the page [it looked just like it does when other people do them] it just did not work

Please can someone explain how to do it to someone who isn't a computer genius

HeHe. I'll have a go at explaining the way I do it. I 'spect there is a far easier way than mine though.

First of all I google up the website and page I wish to link into or open the BE thread .
I then 'copy' the URL and hold it.

Next I go to my reply window and type in the words I want to use for the link

i.e. Here is an explanation of how to link.

I then highlight these words ( that's a left click and move your mouse over the words )

Next I click the globe at the top of the reply box. It is the 9th icon from the right.

A box will appear. I paste the URL I copied into the box and click OK

The text will then appear as Here is an explanation of how to link

For a you tube link or similar it is the reel which is 5th icon from the right.

For a picture it is 6th icon from the right, however you can use attachments for those.

Looks to me that you have somehow carried over an extra "http://"

The easiest way to copy a link is as BEVS here says, find the link you want by googling or accessing the page. Go to the address in your top of the page task bar and click on the website address which should highlight it. Then right click and press copy. Open up your reply box and right click and then press paste. Although this means you won't be able to write over the top of it (I think) it will show a working link.

Tried getting rid of that extra http but still doesn't work.

Oh well, I don't try and do them often anyway...obviously there must be something wrong with my computer rather than just my usual sheer incompetence

Now try & have your links look a bit fancy like this.

You do this by typing the words to describe the link . Highlighting those words and then doing the copy/paste into the world icon box thing before hitting OK.

Hey I can do fancy links! Awesome!

I always have another window open on my browser. It allows me to surf while typing. It also allows me to copy addresses easily.

So, for instance, if I want to post a link to Trademe:

I type Trademe and then highlight the word

I then open another window and open the Trademe page. I copy that link (ctrl C)

I then go to the little picture of the globe with the paperclip.

I open that, remove the first hatey teepee (http) cos that is annoying and then post my link over the top which includes the hatey teepee. If I know the web address easily enough (like Trademe's) then I just type it straight into the box.

Voila. Or, wahlah. Whatever you want
