Legionnaires Disease and tap water

Legionnaires Disease and tap water
Hi everyone,
We've been drinking tap water since we arrived, I read here somewhere that the tap water's fine but now with the outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease in Auckland I'm beginning to wonder.
Bottled water would be prohibitive because of costs but has anyone tried those filter jugs? Are they effective?
Thanks in advance!

not related to Legionnaires as know nothing about it but since I arrived and been drinking the water from the taps I've been getting stomach aches was putting it down to stress of the move etc but we decided to get a water filter, as used one in the UK, and I must say my stomach aches seemed to disappear overnight. Kids and hubby drunk the water with no problems so may just be my age

The water has to be at a warm temperature, not hot, and inhaled via a spray/droplet system. Drinking will not result in legionellosis. Cold water will not support contamination.

I don't like drinking boiled water! don't like the taste of it. I like cold & fresh. !!
my parents live in a farm and drink crap rain water from the dirty roof (full of birds poo. ). yuk! must be boiled otherwise gonna die. thats one of reasons refuse to live in auckland. Whenever I visit them, I always have to buy bottled clean water to make my coffee & tea. its extra money!!!

Most often caused my dirty shower heads and air conditioning systems.
I always drink tap water anywhere in the western world and never had a problem. I had a friend form the UK that went to the states and she swelled up like a ballon with water retention, guess some people are more sensitive than me.

I think you're right about the tap water in Auckland. I bought a brita water filter when I arrived here as the water tasted foul out of the tap and stopped buying bottled water but then got really bad stomach symptoms. This went on for a couple of weeks but as soon as I went back to bottled water the symptoms cleared up.

now I do actually remember just once I found bugs in my kettle a few years ago in wellington. it was dead (coz boiled ) but big so it was visible. thought I was going to tell you guys here but didn't bother. It was disgusting though. and very surprised.
and the other thing! I am very lazy to change the filter (Brita Jug) - I sometimes use over 4 months and never wash the jug but never get sick! I don't know why! haha
