Default LEAVING FURNITURE IN STORAGE IN UK

I am renting my house out and thinking of leaving my furniture in storage in the first instance when we head out. Has anyone else done/doing this?
Are there many furnished rentals up for grabs? Any advice appreciated.

Thats exactly what i intend to do when I leave UK. Am hoping to rent house out but think it might be better to sell up and have done with it save anyone recking what I have. Had looked into Big Yellow Storage Compnay and rates v reasonable. Good idea to do this before shipping your stuff over. Make sure you're committed to staying there as it's an expensive job!!

hi jacky g here

thats what we did,i think its about 100pounds a month we pay,
we sold our house, but kept the furniture, you can buy another house, but its hard to replace years of collecting your personal stuff, they mean a bit more than bricks and mortar,

we have a 30 months wtr.and we decided to rent furnished,i know a few people who have brought there furniture accross, only to be stored here,

its just a personal choice for us

Hi jacky,

Thats great to know. We are not really in a position to know if we will ever get WTR for sure so leaving furniture in storage seems the smartest thing for us. Our trip is definitely an adventure now. Was there a good choice of furnished rentals? How much more on top of unfurnished should I expect to pay.

Just a word of warning - it's quite difficult to find furnished rentals in NZ.

Most of them seem to only have an oven and a dishwasher but no other furniture. It might be worth checking this out before you come over.

Have a look at www.trademe.co.nz or www.realestate.co.nz/rental to see what you can find.

Good luck

Thanks will do. Hoping for some renters to post their experiences.

We left our stuff in the UK as we were renting our house out We took a furnished apartment for a week while we looked for a house to rent. We then bought a bed and sofa from Harvey Norman that would be delivered the next day (our moving in day) and persuaded the landlady to lend us a fridge freezer. The best place to buy cheap stuff while waiting for your furniture is Trade Me or Trade and Exchange - you can always sell it there when you decide to move your stuff over.

There's no Ikea yet (although I have heard rumours!). The nearest is Freedom Furniture www.freedomfurniture.co.nz

garry foun furnished rentals no problem

our only problem was finding somewhere to take our dog

we went for holiday let,and negotiated the price, bacuase we were willing to rent for a year...

but agree with brian,no shortage of furnished rentals around auckland area..
if anyone wants to secure rental in auckland area before they come out,we would be quite happy to drive and have a look at house for you,and give you our opinion

We found a lot more furnished available by walking in the real estate agents than you'll ever find online, and Taupo's not that big a place.
You can be in in a day once you know which one you like.
And as for the emotional attachment in building up your "personal stuff"....just sell it, you'll get detached once you get your new bed.
