I expect my Mum would have prepped her own weight in veg some time last week.

Sensible woman, think the rule is an four hours of boiling per half ounce of veg and then you add an extra week just to be safe.

That way you also have time to get the angle grinder out and slice the gravy.

Not in my New Zealand!

Or just be sensible and celebrate on Xmas eve like most of northern Europe.

Dunno. Think most here will be sitting down in front of the warm glow of a telly with tinned fruit and evaporated milk to watch a soap kill off a popular cast member.

Looks like it may be Trifle on the menu; the ten day forecast is showing that weather is forecast to turn to custard next weekend.

Oh well. Usual unsettled forecast.

Last chance...-screenshot-122-.png

We'll be having the roast turkey with all trimmings and slobbing out. We have a covered deck so in the event of rain we can still sit out.

I will prep my frozen sprouts on the day by lobbing them into the water for a seasonal mush.

Yip, same here! Same every year actually, the weather is always a bit of a 'disappointment' and it's never been too hot for a roast dinner in my experience.

Hoping for a hot sunny Christmas is as futile as dreaming of a White Christmas - it could happen but I certainly wouldn't be placing any bets.

I recall several hot, sunny Christmases in recent years. No doubt you will let us know if it isnt as per your style

We'll be having Bucks fizz at about 10.30 am just as an appetiser, followed by more whilst prepping veg an stuff until about 3pm (We'll be sloshed by then so we won't care how the food turns out)
After lots of hilarity opening silly presents we finally gather at the table and have avocados with prawn cocktail for starters, then the traditional British Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, with loads of booze and stupid hats, crackers and jokes.
Then for afters we have my huge homemade pavlova with lashings of cream, strawberries and ice cream.
I just have carried on the tradition I grew up with and it would be wrong to do it any other way and it's never too hot, mostly the weather is just meh on Xmas day in NZ, at least it has been since we arrived in 2004.
