Default Land Surveyor moving to NZ next year.

Hello All

Basically my situation at the moment is I'm currently working as a Land Surveyor in London but after a number of years l have decided that I want a change and New Zealand is my preferred location. I'm moving next year in February on a Working Visa and focused on areas such as Christchurch and Auckland.

But i have a few unanswered questions and was wondering if people can help me or guide me in the right direction most in particular Surveyors who are currently working in NZ.

Just wondering if you have any advice for me such as economy, wages, rent, price of food, lifestyle etc. I would really appreciate it. General information that one would require to establish himself in a new country. I have researched on the internet regarding the above but I believe these forums are very helpful too.

Thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum, I was going to reply sooner but thought I'd wait for a Land Surveyor to answer first but none has as yet, so I will. I'm an ex-hydrographic surveyor (20 years at sea!) but gave it up for a career change into project management. However I did join the NZIS Welcome to the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors : New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and know a lot of them through my current job so I may be able to help.
So any specific questions regarding survey in NZ I would be glad to help with. On a general basis about life in NZ, all I would say is I love it and think it a fantastic place, but bear in mind I avoid Auckland like the plague!
Here are a few links to survey companies
Aurecon - Global engineering, management and specialist technical services consultancy.

Engineering NZ Land Development Since 1932 - Davis Ogilvie
Good luck
