Having never been to a Kmart in all our years living here. Should we be expecting a John Lewis type experince or a more down market version of The Warehouse?

Down market version of The Warehouse in my opinion. Although had plenty of decent camping gear from there. My wife got some reasonably good T shirts on sale for $1. Worth a rummage.

This place will be about 25 minutes from me Catcha. It looks like it will be huge. I'll let you know but am not expecting John Lewis from what Mr BEVS has said of it.

Don't be getting too excited!
It's just the warehouse with better lighting and surrounds. Usual old cheap Christmas shite stacked to the ceiling for 4 months of the year, barbecues and picnic-ware and teenage girly throwaway 'fashion' items for another four month and blankets and fleecy things for the remaining four.

I quite like Kmart, it is a bit warehouse ish but its good for sport or fishing gear.
I dont buy clothes from kmart or the warehouse so cant comment on what they're like.
Other half likes the cosmetic dept

Not sure it's even as good as The Warehouse, which has lifted it's game in recent months, IMO. Like the red shed, it has some excellent specials on (sometimes).

It depends what you want and what you want to pay. If you are looking for a set of cheap crockery, then it's ideal - the plates won't break any easier than if you pay a fortune! If you want Royal Doultan to eat your dinner off ofr, then it won't be for you.
It has cheap toys, cheap clothes, cheap homeware. I have just bought a highchair for when my granddaughter visits for 4 weeks - $59. I bought t-shirts, shorts and skirts when I arrived 2 years ago as money was tight - I still wear them and they are fine.
It doesn't pretend to be anything but what it is - cheap and cheerful!

There are a few K-Marts here in Auckland, it could be described as you put it a more down market version of the warehouse.
However you can find a bargain on certain items just dont expect top branded goods.

I always thought the one in Riccarton was more tatty than the Warehouse. But it was good for cheap toiletries and Christmas boxes of chocolates

Poo ! We have cheap and cheerful tat here with The Warehouse. I suppose a part of me was hoping for something a bit different.
