Kids schooling questions

Hi guys hope once again hope someone on hear could give me some advise, It relates to my kids. 2 kids one year 10( 15 years old) and one in year 7 (12 years old). Looking to move to NZ around the end of August from the UK. Now I'm coming over on essentials skills visa which is valid for 2 years. I've been told the kids will need to apply for student visa's under the domestic student. Now I've been told the kids are able to go to school without paying fees as they will be classed as domestic students. The area I'm slighty confused about is,now say if my daughter decides to stay in school after age of 16 and do her year 12 and 13 will she still be able to claim domestic student rights, therefore not paying fees. I'm aware that if say in few years If I was still on temp work visa and she wanted to got Univ she would have to pay International student fees. Thanks in advance.

interesting question and I'm afraid that would depend on the rules at the time, as you may be aware rules are changing in August so will they change again over that time.....

It's one that I can't really find the answer to Mrs Fychan despite me searching the internet. If you can get a extra 2 years at school and get her equivalent A level*( NCEAlevel 2 and 3) qualifications without having to pay international fees then its good news. Just need someone to confirm if they have moved over from the UK and did they have to pay fees after their kids turned 16 if they themselves were on temp work visa.

your temp visa would be upgraded after 2 years if you meet the criteria? if so then I would say still domestic students. now need to see if there is a minimum amount of time being a domestic student before you pay international student fees for Uni

Re: Kids schooling questions

thats how I read it, depends on your visa.
to be sure: email [email protected] or phone +64 4 463 8000 and ask to speak to someone about eligibility to enrol in New Zealand schools as a domestic student.

Not sure if I'm reading this right, but, if this helps, my DD was on a student Visa while we were on LTBV and we got Residence Visa in the December before she started Uni the following January. If we hadn't got that Visa she would have had to pay International fees. As it is she couldn't/can't get Student Loans as she had to be resident for 3 years before she qualified for one.

Ahh yes the 3 year residency for student loans, forgotten about that one.

Hopefully the links I gave help or at least romey has an email address to contact those that should know all the ins and outs.
