Thank you for your encouragement, it seems a real mountain to climb! Hoping our daughter will head out first, and she is keen to do nursing in Auckland... anyone with any ideas, we'd love to hear! Where to look, to live, as she has 4 children [5-15] and making a fresh start, enthusiasm and energy - what about schools, etc too :rofl:

The windy city! so they say! We are looking further north, not sure what work may be available in basic healthcare [Nurse Aide etc] and adding in Bed and Breakfast [good way to meet people, too!];)

Well, daughter Emma plus 4 children [15, 9, 8 and 5] share a house with us here in UK, we do the childcare for her - and we'd like to go as a family. Trying to work out how to do this: her skills should qualify her - and we can support ourselves [always have worked hard] so the route in ??:confused:
Any suggestions are really welcome: we are doing our homework but just haven't got past this one.

How do you feel about that? Really, I mean... as mum of Emma we are quite concerned not to become 'groupies'..! but to offer support and encouragement/childcare as we do here We are sharing a house here, but we do not plan to do that again for the reason above. So maybe living in nearby town/village gives the best of both? or at least nearby streets, rather than being next door?
The best advice we have had so far is that if we [and this would apply to your mum-in-law] are the 'centre-of-gravity' for Emma - and she for us - then we could probably get a PR fairly quickly. This means that for your Mum-in-law you are her chief or only family. If she has other children, or family members, in UK then she probably couldn't claim this: and someone will say if I have got too carried away and optimistic about all this!!! but it seems an answer to our prayers :) :)

i have read somewhere about the centre of gravity thingy, it wouldnt work in our case as she would still have 3 children in the uk. oh dear she cant come :rofl: :thumbsup: :rofl:

Hi and welcome to this forum.

We came from Bournemouth Dorset to the Top of South Island three years ago .

Seems like there will be two applications to come to NZ then. One for yourselves and then one for your daughter and her children.

Can you tell us all a bit more about what work you do and if you have any skills and qualificiations It helps to know as there are a variety of rules and visas.

Yai! daughter is at present a Care Assistant and Deputy Manager in the Agency she works for - keen to move into nursing proper and working for qualifications, although that would be a while yet. We share a house, care for her children [5-15] and generally keep the family afloat one way or another! We fall outside the age limit, which is why we have wondered whether there is a way to accompany Emma and keep the family unit. our 'Skills' include hospitality [we'd like to offer B&B] and growing things including happy children as well as plants:rofl: previous involvement with journalism, photography, radio, etc I don't know if any of these have a value - the skills list doesn't rate them too highly I think! but any comments are really welcome.

just listened to interview on [UK] radio where an immigrant returning to NZ for second time said it has only now dawned on her that the beautiful scenery and wonderful way of life really in the end is not as important *to her* as being close to friends and family... she concluded that after these 3 moves, she now doesn't know where her 'home' is. This is honestly not meant to be depressing but it seems really important to keep this in mind: home is where the heart is...
