Default Jobs in NZ

Hi,

I am currently applying for a temp visa, to join the missus in wellington.

Basically I aim to arrive in early June, but need to earn more ASAP.

What are the best options?

I am well educated, just completed a PhD in Marine biology, physicaly fit so willing to do anything.

I have applied for a few jobs from the UK but always been rejected, supposedly thats pretty normal until you get there.

I have been thinking about looking at doing pharm sales, a number of colleagues over here have left science to work in that domain.

I was thinking of signing up with a temping agency at the start. Any ex pats have jobs going?

Also when does the football season start over there? like to get back playing a decent level again.

Cheers

Iain

Try contacting Synergyconsult.co.nz

They specialise in Healthcare recruitment. They have my CV on file for Pharmaceutical work. They always keept my posted about vacancies but like you, can't consider me until I am there with my VISA. They suggested that you go over without a job and then hook up with them. Keep an eye on seek.co.nz as they have a search facility where you can specify the kind of job you want. There is a section for Pharma work. Not sure if you need to be qualified in Pharma tho. I curently work for a Pharma co in UK and looking to do the same in NZ.

I meant to say earlier that I didn't apply for jobs through Seek because they do not even consider you if you aren't there to start work in 3 weeks time! The interview process and filling of the positions seem to be quicker than I have experienced in the UK. Plus, if you do not have the valid VISA, they discard your application. I contacted the companies or agencies that were advertising through seek direct, explaining that I would be out there fairly soon and would appreciate them looking at my C.V and keeping it on file. Sure enough Synergy did that and contacted me 8 months later with a few jobs. I sent my C.V last April explaining that I wouldn't be in NZ til this year and they got in contact in Jan. You could also contact the Pharma companies direct with your C.V. I got hold of as many company names as I could from the yellow pages when I was there on holiday in Jan and found their websites when I got back and emailed them. One of them resulted in a telephone interview. Good luck and let me know if you need any contact names.

Thanks,

didnt know that about SEEK.

Basically I have no experience of pharm sales, but a few colleagues have gone that way after research and enjoyed it, so its something I am considering. But I gather I need to get some shadowing done. My Gf got quite along way down the process over here (regulalrly down to the last 2), but in the end got a job in NZ so moved there.

Any contacts for the area in Wellington/North Island would be most appreciated. At the moment I have just been emailing my CV of to a number of scientific companies in wellington/Hutt area.

Thanks

Iain
