as an expat screw and now having over 4 years experience here in NZ, the department here did recruit a large number of British staff back in 2005.

The current recruitment campaign is primarilry aimed at kiwi's (recession etc) however British staff can apply; if successful at the Hogan assessment then it will be your responsibilty to get out here for an interview and medical (no reimbursement) and take your chances at a job being offered (no guarantees even if you are in the service back in the UK).

The pay is as follows

Pay for corrections officers varies depending on their experience and level of responsibility.

Corrections officers earn between $44,272 and $54,529 a year. All staff will start on the lower scale, but will build up to the higher scale once they have completed and passed NZQA Level 3 Unit standards.
Senior corrections officers earn between $58,849 and $62,088. (Again lower scale then higher once Level 4 unit standards passed.
Principal corrections officers earn between $66,407 and $69,649. Lower to higher scale once Level 5 Unit standards passed.

There is no yearly increments just the yearly pay increases from government which are negotiated under collective union agreements.

Promotion is dependent on unit standards achivements and experience within the prisons (mainly the NZ prisons, UK experience is not generally counted towards promotion).

Overtime is available in many prisons and to be honest a lot of staff do overtime to bulk out their salaries.

The prisons currently recruiting are Otago (SI), Spring Hill (near Auckland), Auckland Womens and Northland Regional Correcetions facilty (near Keri Keri).

Guys please remember that the job here is not the same as the UK, and although the four prisons which are recruiting are new jails the shifts can be tedious, there is little scope to specialise, so please be aware.

I am happy to receive any PM's from any UK staff wanting to join and I will give an honest and open reply about the service here, it is a good job but can be tedious and boring at times, the lifestyle makes up for the monotony of the job. __________________
