Job opportunities in IT
 

Does anyone know what the job prospects in IT are like in NZ at the moment? UK seems really competitive and I'm struggling to find work.

I've experience in IT support and Implementation planning albeit I've been out of the game for two years when I went to Oz and worked in the mines.

you need to be checking Trademe and Seek for job vacancies. maybe think of where you want to be, IT is usually centred around Auckkland and Wellington and then see of you can contact some agencies in those area's. Must say though agencies for us we're more than useless whilst we were in the UK. Boots on ground was the way we did it

I would of thought short term work you could, you have work restrictions on WHV (?)

maybe have a look on Seek and Trademe and put in temp option

Most companies and agencies require applicants to definitely have suitable visas in place before applying for any role, and many will insist on local interviews.

I'm finding the market in IT & IS PM to be very slow to start this year, something confirmed by several agencies. There have been some suitable roles (for me) in Wellington but we've resisted moving because of schooling, and our wish to keep our daughter as settled as possible. Sadly the vacancies haven't been mirrored in the Auckland area, but there have been quite a few in software and development.

I'm told there is work in and around Christchurch, but that it can be harder to find affordable accommodation there at present.

Visa was not a prerequisite for agency or employer in our experience. But agree lots more interest with boots in NZ. Wellington Immigration office provided a Temp Work Visa within a couple of hours.
