Ive just about been offered a job has a hgv driver.
Earning $18.50 p/hr on 60 hrs

I worked it out as $51k a year.
Just want to know if this is a good wage and if we can live on this. we got 3 kids too.

it works out at $4400 a month and rent about $1700? .

does anyone earn near this and after tax how much take home is there

Hi Mark,

Up to 38000 rate is 19.5% and 38001 to 60000 is 33%. There is no tax free amount like in UK but there isn't any NI to pay either.

Can't say if you will manage but I know other people on here will be able to give you their opinion on that. A lot depends on what is important to you!

where will you be living?
in auckland it will be hard but not impossible. elsewhere it will be easier.
it is not the sort of salary you will be rich on. in some ways it depends what you are used to in the uk i suppose
look on sorted.org.nz? (something like that) for after tax take home pay and cost of living calcs. i think it works out at about $750 a week after tax, but look at an income tax calculator

cant find that site, but found nz inland reveune and can calculate tx to pay.
on 51000, i pay 11700 tax.

which i worked out i take home bout £1300 a month which is ok, just less then wat i earn now

$18.50 is a pretty good wage for a wage for a fresh off the boat Truck Driver.

Really depends where you will be living.

We couldn't survive without the wife working too.
