Jeyes Fluid!!
Hi
I have read loads of posts about people using Jeyes Fluid to clean stuff down prior to packing.
Is there anything else we can use instead, as I absolutely loath the smell of the stuff?

We are in the middle of using it now and yes it stinks, you dont actually have to deep clean your stuff with it but it needs to be smelling of it when MAFF open the container

Re: Jeyes Fluid!!
there is another fluid that is acceptable to MAF, it's available from your local vets, but is apparently much more expensive than Jeyes.... sorry i can't remember what it's called, but i'd hazard a guess that if you check out the bio-security stuff the details would be there... hope that's of some help! i'd have a look for you but i've got a PAINFULLY slow connection tonight!!
know what you mean... jeyes always makes me feel queasy!!

Does everything need to be treated in this way? What happens if I don't?

Vircon S. you can get it from big pet shops or feed and poultry merchants. We paid £1.50 for a little pack of powder that you mix with about 5 litres of water and just spray. PSS will spray for you if you ask.

I think I will go with Am Loolah and do the outside stuff with dettol. Thanks everyone for your input. OH spent hours cleaning one of his remote control motors last night. He's gonna have to speed up or chuck em away

We didn't clean anything with Jeyes Fluid, just cleaned everything as we normally would. Had no problem with MAFF and we brought camping equipment and garden equipment. Hope this helps

Im the same as Nero, we didn't clean a thing with Jeyes. I cleaned our dyson pretty well, gave the bikes a wipe with a Flash wipe and ignored everything else!
Even the garden spade covered in mud that got packed by accident. We also had camping gear, walking boots, wicker, down duvets, everything that people worry about really!
MAF were great

Thank you Nero and Pixi-dust,
We have camping stuff but we were thinking about dumping it because of the perceived MAFF difficulties. Maybe we will take it. We have a great old lawnmower but with the best will in the world, I can't see us getting that clean enough.
I even thought about getting a big sponge, drench it in disinfectant and pack it in an empty small box right at the front so the container has the desired God awful stink when they open it.
Luckily I quite like dettol

Re: Jeyes Fluid!!
I think I prefer the spray Dettol too.
I'm currently getting quotes for removal/shippers and I have to say I'm pretty relieved at the estimates. Next step will be to get hard quotes but before I can do that I've got to get everything in one place. I'm going to have to put it in storage first I think.
