Default Its quite sad.

Of late there's seems to have been much slating of what other people think, feel and enjoy. Its quite sad the way adults are ripping into each other and deriding what the other finds enjoyable.

Live and let live, let's hear the positive and negative about NZ..thats what the point of it all, but all this crap about "well my countries go this and yours hasn't" is well zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzz

May I suggest moderate behaviour?

Tis true.
NZ BE is seen as extremely negative by other immigration forums.

Quite a number of old posters stating they don't post here anymore because of the slagging.

Be we love it don't we

"By other immigration forums"

Methinks "other immigration forums" need to get a new topic to gossip about......immigration perhaps?

If anything BE NZ has become a lot more popular of late, it's not unusual to see 50 or so people on the forum this time of the evening.

Guess it's a reflection of how good the site is?

It's like watching a car crash sometimes - you want to but you just can't look away.. or it could just be this

In my humble opinion (and it is quite sad to have to conciously think that you need to preface everything this way) I do enjoy most of the 'banter' that goes on in this forum until it gets personal. I like hearing other peoples views and it helps to place NZ firmly out of the rose tint and into the real world.

On the subject of other forums - I belong to 2 or 3 other NZ forums - this one is the most 'reactionary' shall we say, but at the same time is the quickest to answer questions. However, often it is useful to get other points of view from other people. Considering how often the threads here can wend a very wiggly way away from the original post - other slower and maybe 'more boring' forums seem to keep to the point more. I got many more on topic relies to one of my posts at on different forum, whereas the same post here degraded into a bit of a harangue.

I enjoy the honesty of the opinions on this forum and certainly you get a feel for 'character'! And I look forward to hopefully meeting a few of you eventually.

I agree,

I think a more individual consideration approach would help. There are groups of mates here, that socialises together and obviously have a certain loyalty to each other and from my experience, if you enter into debate ( healthy) with one person you end up getting their mates jumping on you.

There are certainly two teams here:

the we love NZ and don’t say anything bad about NZ or we’ll kick yer head in team

and the team that post the negative issues regarding New Zealand.

I find it very frustrating that when folk are trying to discuss things that other folk may want to hear, like the boy racer issue, you get posts like , well we love it here in NZ, we stay drunk the whole weekend and live 100 miles away from any main road so what’s your problem. NZ has no hoons.

Although I am perceived as the eternal pessimist, this forum needs to be balanced.
New Zealand is not this warm fuzzy place without its problems.

It has very real problems that exist and shouting down people that want to offer these issues to folk considering New Zealand as their new home.

So I am all for mutual respect

Yep totally agree. If you deviate from other peoples views you get personally attacked for it, some take disagreement as a personal slight rather than as a part of a conversation.

Hello!! I am an NZ lover BUT say it how it is, I have a realistic view on the country, its is great in my opinion and gives me all I ever wanted..well almost..however I am fully aware (after 3 years!!) that the place is utterly full of problems and issues. fortunately very little of the latter impact upon me and my family.

Yes, I also have retired in the Bay of Islands and spend the winters in Fiji & Oz. Have three businesses in Auckland that hardly ever require me to be there.

I think New Zealand is great

Morrissey once penned 'We hate it when our friends become successful,'

If ever there was a truer statement.... it is ok you know for people to not be pessimistic, and it is ok for people to actually like it over here and accept the bad with the good, and it is ok for people to air their positive experiences.

the guys who want to air the 'bad points' are just as bad at jumping down people's throats who dare say anything nice about NZ.

Its a shame this forum is top of the search ranks in google. there are many more expat type forums out there that give very well balanced views.

I would urge newcomers to remember that only THEY can decide what is right for them, and FIRST HAND experience is going to be your decider - not the opinions of people on 'this shallow website' (quote NiceGuy)

Does this sarcasm not break your statement:

"So I am all for mutual respect"
