Default Its all over for us

We had the dream in our hands and now its been taken away.

It all started with an email 2yrs ago to a NZ company.
They emailed back saying that no positions were available but would keep my hubbys CV on file.
We started a family because without a job offer as my hubby had no formal quals, there was no way for us to get to NZ and put the whole thing to bed.
We moved house and had another child but never really got over the NZ thing.
2yrs later out of the blue we had an email offering my hubby a position from the NZ company from 2yrs ago!
We were over the moon, all our dreams come true.
A month after, 2 interviews later they invited us to NZ to make sure its what we wanted.
We spent a week there, my hubby had a works medical and spent a few days working with them, everything was great.
We left NZ with no doubts the job was my hubbys and started making plans to start the ball rolling to make the big move.
We had a phonecall last night to say they have changed their minds and are going to readvertise the job again.

We are absolutely devastated, I have never seen my hubby take news so bad as this. I have never seen him cry in 15yrs until last night. I just cant believe this has happened to us. The house was ready to sell, the parents were told which was not easy, my 6yr old was so excited about the whole new life, we planned everything and its all gone.
We feel cheated, misled and used.
This is such a blow to us I'm not sure we can pursue our dream again after being let down so badly and whilst typing this I feel so numb.
I am not looking for sympathy but just wanted to share my story as it makes me feel a little better.
I am not sure I can be of any more use here on this site so it maybe a goodbye but I wish everyone luck with their dream and I hope you all find what you are looking in your new lives.

Thankyou all for answering my past questions and maybe one day I may return.
All the best

Karen

I have no advice to offer you Karen, just wanted to let you know I had read your post and offer my heartfelt condolences. It must be devastating for you as a family and your husband in particular. Hopefully someone on this site may be able able to offer some help so until that that time, (I know it's no consolation but there is nothing I can say to help) have some karma to keep you going.
Best wishes,
Karen B

What a totally awful thing for that company to have done. At least it happened now and not after you sold your house and were in the motions of moving.

GOod luck for the future.

Bastards, that's what they are. Can you try another company in NZ. Or try another country. Oz for example (you most likely end up there anyway). Don't let that put you off. It happens all the time. I got tricks pulled on me in Canada like that. Move on and forget them. I know how you feel. We tried the USA/Canada/NZ. And we are still back in the UK. But we keep trying. What is it your hubby does? Try and contact other employers. Email then call them up. They are not all bad. Best of luck to you all.

How awful! Doesn't sound like the kind of company your husband would like to work for anyway

I hope everything works out for the best in the end.

DONT GIVE UP...Treat this as a small knock back. keep trying, like said before e-mail companies and phone them, and wouldnt it be nice in a year or two's time to knock on that company's door and tell them that letting you down made you stronger and more determined to get out there...........good luck

I have just read your message and I am shocked I can't believe they have done this to you! Have you thought about getting a job through a employment agency over there? We have used new life new zealand (website www.newlifenewzealand.co.nz) and they have found my OH a really good job.

Take care and good luck in whatever you decide to do.

hi karen

what an awful trick to play on you and your family, and the company knowing what you were going to give up to come and work for them. perhaps you are better off without them, i am sure if you continue your search you will find another company who will be better than the one that knocked you back and make it all worth while

good luck for the future

with regards

kirstie

Hi Karen......As others, I would just like to let you know our thoughts are with you all.
We are going through the same process at the moment and I couldn't imagine how I would feel if I had received that phonecall, but I could imagine what your hubby wanted to do!

To ensure others don't have the same misfortune, could you let us all know who the employer was?

All the best with future offers.

thank you all for the replies.
My husband blames himself that he didnt do enough to impress them but no matter what I say to him he feels hes let us all down as a family. I dont blame him and to be honest they dont know what they have just lost. He loved his work and his commitment was 110%. Sometimes he used to work from 5am til the job was done and it wasnt unheard of for him to come home at 3am the next morning, only to do it again the next day. I can only say its their loss but he doesnt see it that way right now.

The thing is my husband specialises in a certain field. He worked in the mushroom growing industry and there is only one company in NZ. He has no qualifications just the 17yrs experience in his job. The thing is the job in question was vacant for 4 months with no-one suitable before they emailed my husband and not to sound biased the job was a carbon copy of what he did in the UK so was more the qualified for the position.

We dont know what else to do right now, I think its just sinking in. I am trying not to give up but the whole thing has been going on for about 3 months now where as far as we knew we were going so we have done the house up, tidied up our finances and made other plans to fit around the big move and then there is the mental side of things where you are living, sleeping and breathing everything NZ and looking forward to it all. My husband even took all his works holiday for the trip out to NZ and now hes lumbered with the thought of not being able to have a day off till next year!

Its very hard but maybe it just wasnt meant to be right now. I dont know.

Try Oz, please try OZ. There must be work like that there and better paid too. Or can you not start up your own business there. There must be a demand for mushrooms. Most people like them. Grow special ones for restaruants etc or supply organics shops etc etc. Take a big deep breath and hold it a few seconds and let it out with your feelings and say "**** em" You feel much better. Then make plans. Good luck.

Only one company? Wow. I agree. With 17 years in the business, an obviously good work ethic, hell yeah, I agree with the others. Time your husband thought about starting his own company. Sure, it'd be a bit of a punt, but with a good plan in place, some financing etc. I think you'd come out laughing.

I wish you all the best.
