How do we get our IRD Numbers? Do we have to pay tax on our earnings in NZ?

If you go online do a google "IRD". You can download forms to apply for an IRD number, which you will need prior to starting work in NZ.

Very easy to get IRD #'s, you can ring them and apply also and yes you do pay Tax on your earnings approx 33%. If Children have Bank accounts they need a number as well otherwise (I think) they get taxed at a higher rate.

Yes, youre right. My DS was 20 months old when I opened him a WestPac account and they wanted his IRD number as well. I got the forms for applying for IRD numbers from the PostShop.

I think we just rang up once we arrived here and they sent us some forms out, didn't take long to get numbers, less than ten days I seem to remember. But I think you pay higher tax if you haven't got a number so prob best to get some while in the uk if you can and then you're ready to go.

We just went down to IRD as we arrived and filled out the forms, was given our numbers there and then on a slip of paper and our IRD card arrived a few days later. Very quick, they want your tax :D :(
