Invercargill chronicle - chronic

A GRAN got more than she bargained for when she pulled a Christmas cracker - and a rotting mouse popped out.

Betty Lawrence, a grandmother from New Zealand's South Island, sat down to Christmas dinner with 20 relatives according to a local newspaper.

And they got a real surprise when she pulled her cracker and found a dead mouse.

Betty, from Invercargill, said: “I had said to my granddaughter ’what’s the smell’ and we couldn’t work it out until we pulled the cracker."

The grisly discovery put her off her Christmas lunch.

The gran said: “It ruined my appetite for the rest of the day."

Yeah but we normally pull our crackers AFTER the food so how did it spoil her appetite?

Maybe they pull them before? We always did, so we got to eat our Christmas dinner wearing silly paper hats. :D

I must be truly evil. I started giggling when i read about this in the Dominion POst. We still have christmas crackers left over from christmas at home and every time someone pulls one now i ask them if they have seen a mouse...

That's true and one of the best things about NZ. When some ditz went into the back of my truck in Dunedin and I got the repairs authorised at the insurance office then jokingly added 'and my neck's a bit stiff, what's that worth?'..she told me to get the hell outta there
