Internet and mobiles in new zealand
Hi all, can anyone help , we are hopeing to come out at the end of this year and are looking at the best way to use the internet ie mobile or home also the best supplier ? is there a main supplier that almost every one uses or do you have to shop around for the best deals, what is the average price per week/month also mobile phones, which is the best network or most common over there?
If anyone can help with this i would be most grateful
Many thanks

I too was trying to find out who everyone uses, I did hear there was a package out there where you can phone Uk for a set amount every month and also use broadband etc.
Which company, anyone know??

It depends where you end up living as to which provider will be able to offer which services.
As for ringing the UK we use Skype - basically call landlines via the PC. Works out at $9 per month for unlimited calls. If your friends have skype you can call, webcam them for free - but I not everyone has this.
Hope this helps

Deals change from supplier to supplier month by month best waiting till you get here.
Mobiles- get your mobile unblocked before you come or there are a few places here who do it and it costs approx. $40

We found vodafone's package really good we get really fast internet (atleast double what we had back in the uk) a home phone line with free calls 24/7 to NZ numbers and we pay 40 dollars for unlimited free calls to the UK these can be made 24/7 also which is great . Infact having this with the phone i can honestly say talking to my friends so much i dont actually miss them,i found this better than using the computer to keep in touch. but remember it depends on the area as to what user you can go with,

if you are in Wellington i think telstraclear gives a cable service.
Vodafone is rolling out phone and broadband too, but is still limited.
mobile broadband is limited and expensive, vodafone and telecom both provide this but i would not say this is a good option unless you are using it for business and travel around a lot.
as for mobiles u have a choice of vodafone or telecom. i prefer vodafone because telecom's mobiles do not use sim cards so vodafone is more flexible.
check out telecom.co.nz and vodafone.co.nz

telecom new zealand is the equivalent to BT. They have a broadband and home phone package combo for $100 a month, and then you can add on unlimited international calls to the uk, aus, usa and a few other countries for x dollars a month as well. they are probably the biggest provider, i have had no problems with their wirelss internet in my home.
