If i have been given a job offer in Christchurch, can we fly out to NZ with the offer of employment and obtain a work permit whilst out there.

If so how long does the permit last,can my wife work as well and how easy is it to obtain a residency visa whilst there.Also does anybody know what you have to go through to get a 7 month pup over there with you.

We really need some advice on these points as everything seems to be happening so fast it is hard to think straight and rationally.

Yes you can get a work permit when you get here.
It takes between 2 and 4 weeks depending on demand.

Dependant on where you are going you can get a work visa in about a week. Your wife will also get her Defacto Visa at that time. The visa lasted 2 yrs. Make sure though all your paperwork is in order, like proof of living together etc. Also ensure that the job offer is detailed and written the way their guidelines show.

Only probs is taking the dog. You have to have a visa for at least a year to take your puppy with you. For whats its worth if you hand deliver the paperwork to NZIS in London they will give you the standard nonsense of about 6 weeks but you will get it sooner. Sorry should of said in order for you to take the dog the paperwork etc takes at least 6 weeks to be processed.

We left our dog at home at first, he then followed on once we were settled. Check under my name for more info on taking dogs to NZ.

ps if you know someone already out in NZ you can use their name for the dogs import.

sorry forgot to add. If you apply for your PR on arrival to NZ you will be issued automatically with a visa until your PR has been approved. You will still have 2 lots of fees but saves you a bit of hassle (as long as your job is on the shortage lists).
