Re: IKEA!

I'm a self-confessed ikeaholic, and for the last 10 years I've been waiting them to come closer than 2 hours' drive away. They are opening a store in my home town next year and what do I do? I move to NZ! Now that's masochism... :p

If they open their store just before we move, maybe I could get stuff from them and bring it over in the flat packs in my container. Hmmm.... Maybe I do need a 40ft container instead of the 20 ft one!

Could be a great business idea, though you might want to choose another brand since people here have often not even heard of Ikea (why pay for branding that doesn't work?).

I think most NZ women who read magazines will be pretty familiar with the brand. The glossy mags often have Ikea products featured, you know those kitchen / bedroom makeover articles and the like.

I wouldn't want anyone to be holding their breath waiting for Ikea to arrive, it's been mooted for nigh on five years as far as I am aware. The powers that be, simply don't want them here competing with the Kiwi rimu industry.

I don't understand the fuss about Ikea anyway, what is so wrong with the retro / nostalgic look of your Nana's best sitting room.

The scales have fallen from my eyes!!!:ohmy::ohmy: I thought at least half of the properties on trademe were sold by estates after the passing of a very old relative... And now you tell me it's the standard decor!! Now that will take a some time to get used to!:rofl:

Couldn't find the bedspreads but I found this:
Bars
What every self respecting person should have in their living room;)

Mgee, get yourself 2 40' containers, fill them with IKEA desirables and sell them when you get here. You'll just have to explain to customs how you like a LOT of furniture in your house...
I can see it now "Mmmm Mrs Mgee why DO you need 100 bookcases when you have no books..."

Re: IKEA!

Sue, luckily I have LOTS of books! If Amazon could knight people, I would be a Dame already based on the amount of books I order from them...

Re: IKEA!

So there'll be no problem with customs then...

Now there's a thing, bars! I am old enough to remember back in the 70s how it was all the rage to have a bar in your lounge and people would talk of them as a thing of beauty, never failing to drop into conversations in a Margo Leadbetter kind of fashion, the fact that they had one.

They are sadly very common here and people often have them in the rumpus or the garage.

Re: IKEA!

Don't see IKEA ever coming to NZ. Too much competition for the other rather old-fashioned stores. Best bet is to move to OZ if you want IKEA.

We brought all our IKEA stuff flat-packed, and it looks great. Couldn't have found it anywhere here.

Ikeas not here be cause it would kill off a lot of the furniture makers in this county, The excuse about causing too much traffic is the only one the authorities can think of, but its a feeble excuse
