Thanks biscuit, only really started looking a few weeks ago and seriously this week so pretty pleased. The guys at the new firm all seems to be really nice blokes, especially the owner we got on like a house on fire. Pretty positive all in all.
Thanks for all the messages.

Well done on the job RichieRich! That will help you feel more settled as I'm sure you'll make friends at work. A couple of weeks in maybe ask the guys you work with if they want to do drinks one day after work and make it a regular beers on a Friday type thing. My partner did this and two years on it's still beer Friday! He had to keep mentioning it though, it didn't just happen and then eventually they gave into his beer related nagging I think another guy has introduced ice cream Friday also... yeah Friday's not the healthiest day it seems!
Also agree with comments above about joining a team of some kind. I've made friends playing tennis and now run with a group of girls from work. I was thinking of branching out and playing touch rugby next year!

Thanks guys. That is a good idea about going out on a Friday also, I will give that a try for sure.

Re: How to settle into NZ life?
Hi there, and welcome.
I have been here 21 months, and when I first arrived I landed alone, hubby was still in the UK finishing off the house sale.
I knew no one, and had never been to South Island before, never mind Invercargill. I came over with a job offer, hubby was starting from scratch.
I knew that friends wouldn't come to me, so I joined all the sporting clubs I could find, went to all the socials that work staff were organising, even if I didn't want to, just to meet people. This worked nicely, but then, I'm quite a social animal when I need to be!
Hubby found it quite demoralising looking for work when he arrived, and it took him some time.
My recommendations would be seek advice to Kiwify your CV, and send it absolutely everywhere! Keep your ear open, as many jobs get filled by word of mouth, so make networking your priority.
Keep smiling, keep thinking why you did this, and remember, Rome wasn't built in a day

That is excellent going!! I'm sure I read on here someone who hasn't found a job in four years; so in a month is pretty good. You must be doing something right.

Hi
I'm a kiwi who returned after 10 years in the UK with a English wife and kids. That was 12 years ago. We've had some ups and downs along the way like everyone does, but generally we kept our eyes on what we wanted to achieve (outdoors and family lifestyle, without commuting) and glad to say we have got all that in spades.
Think there will be plenty on here who have gone through some difficult times including self doubt, confusion, bitterness even, but have come out the other side stronger and feeling great about their new lives. Sometimes it takes a lucky break, sometimes it takes a bit of sweat and tears, but most people seem to get there.
Keep your pecker up...
