We have used both private landlord and an agent and had no problems with either. Our first rental was sorted from the UK. We used the local newspaper online classified section to find the rental. Spoke to the landlord by phone. Sorted paperwork by fax. She was so good to us. Picked us up from the airport at midnight when we arrived here and lent us her car for a week till we got one of our own. She sorted problems out quickly, usually the same day! Our current house is rented through an agent and although she hasnt inspected it since last September we dont have any probs with them at all. In fact the company paid for a secure lock to be fitted to our back door as the owner refused ( her attitude, if someone is going to break in they will, just get insurance!) Just wanted to defend both agents and private landlords . Just our experience.
