Okay, IMO Auckland has some great schools as does Hawkes Bay.

Northland (Whangarei schools) are very variable. Some very poor areas and thus low decile schools with social issues to match. A couple of people from this forum live around Whangarei and have very positive first hand experiences of the schools there though.

Can't comment on other areas of the NI.

But TBH, it really depends on what you want from a school and what your school is currently like. If you live in inner city London, many NZ schools will seem good by comparison. If however you have the best state grammar school on your doorstep and love it, then you need to choose your NZ school more carefully if you would like a similar school.

Could you not pick a couple of areas, do some extensive research online into jobs/salaries/lifestyle/schools etc and then maybe do a recce based on your findings, including visiting some schools. There are websites for most of the main areas on NZ which give you a glimpse into the geography, climate, activities, facilities etc plus websites for a lot of schools.

Personally, I think you then need to visit.
