Hi All,

A company contacted me recently about a role in NZ, the salary would be 100K or a bit over that. Given that how much would be the right amount to spend on accommodation. We like a biggish place to live so that we can have guests, say 4/5 bedroom. Nice area for families, good school etc.

Perhaps this info doesn't make it easy for you to suggest an amount or place but perhaps you could say where to avoid.

Could be a choice of Wellington or Auckland which doesn't help you, but any info appreciated.

On that money you will take home about $3200 every two weeks. I pay 420 a month for a nice little house with four beds. I have paid 515 for a four bed with huge pool. I would say in Hamilton a good price for a 4 bed would be between 400-450

$450 a month wow you are doing well. Don't you mean $450 a week? I was paying $360 a week in Tauranga for a four bed. Now finally built and it's only $150 a week

Thank god for that, I knew my $320/week in Rotorua was high but that had me hyperventilating!

Great information thanks, I will start look at places in that price bracket.

One more question: Is that sort of money enough for a family of 4 to live on comfortably? I think it depends on how far the NZ dollar stretches across bills etc. I don't want to struggle, I love ebay and eating out too much )

My new (2 year old) 4 bed house would rent out at around $450 a week in Cambridge near hamilton.
Auckland the same thing would be £600 +

I live in Cambridge, Norfolk Downs...........420 for a 4 bed. Depends on the placement and such really.....

we pay $480 for a fully furnished 4 bed ( includes all the important stuff like a plasma tv , wine glasses etc ) on Oaklands , Cambridge - only downside is single glazed and only source of heat is one gas fire in lounge

Agree, the chances of finding 4 bed house in Auckland for $400-500 a week wouldn't be great.

You probably won't be able to afford 3 holidays a year abroad, but you should find $100k sufficient for everyone to participate in hobbies, do your ebay shopping (trademe over here) and still have a few meals and bottles of wine!
