How much luggage???????????

Hi Peeps,
Can someone help me and my wife(Sall41), we have been told that if you inform the airline co. that you are moving abroard, that you will be allowed a higher amout of luggage than normal, is this true?, also that you get more allowance if you go via the US, rather than the Far East, is this true?
Please help. It is soooooooo confusing:confused:

Hey Gooner - you've stopped answer the other thread! Anyway, just to say that yes it is true that Airlines will give you more luggage allowance, if you call them and let them know in advance. But it is not a given, so perhaps you need to check it out at booking stage to make sure you can get it.

Not sure about which way round to fly to get more allowance. Had not heard of this, but of course this does not mean that it's not true. Perhaps someone else can help with this.

Have you guys been for your recci yet?

If you are going via North America you will be allowed to check-in two pieces, each piece can weigh no more than 23kgs (this according to the Air New Zealand website http://www.airnz.co.nz/travelinfo/ba...n_baggage.htm).
Carry on limits are up to 7kgs.

That's the advantage of flying via the US (Los Angeles most likely). The disadvantage is that LAX sucks the big wazoo.

You too HappyNZ! We had a horrid time, both times we've been to LA - cannot recommend it at all!:frown: We are determined that next time we fly to NZ it is definitely via far east.

Hi,
Don't know about just telling the airline your emigrating as tecnically unles you have PR your going on holiday.
We travelled via Dubai and Singapore, from UK our bags could only weigh 20kgs each. Ours were heavy, luckily flight was'nt full. When we got to Dubai and Singapore we were allowed 32kgs each. Good excuse to do lots of shopping in Dubai.
