How much do you reckon this house would be worth?

I hate this 'tender' way of buying a house, especially when you are not a kiwi and have no idea about how much something might be worth.

by realtors. First off, the house and rooms always look bigger than
they really are. Notice how small the kitchen looks, and you won't
be getting wooden cabinets in the kitchen, only those tacky dentists
office looking laminate things. The sink and counters along the wall
are only as wide as the window. The wooden furniture near the
dining table clearly does not fit - it's too large.
Doesn't say anything about central heating, either. Or double-glazed
windows. How well is it insulated? The upstairs rooms make me think-
what about air-conditioning? It'll get hot up there in the summer.
Can't open your windows either, or all the mozzies will get in.
Upstairs rooms look tiny, with sloping ceilings which will make them
seem claustrophic. Beware the Kiwi "double bedroom" They mean
it can fit a double bed!!! Nevermind there won't be room for much else.
Kiwi houses are usually built, like too much else else here,
with substandard materials and shoddy craftsmanship.
All that land - are you planning on keeping animals? Mowers are
absurdly expensive. Looks like you're paying for the land more than anything.
I've looked at heaps and heaps of houses so far, and I must say,
I'm beginning to understand the Kiwi lifestyle, which means paying
more but getting less than for comparable things in comparable places.

Actually, I thought I recognised this house so I drove past it today when I went up town. I've been in it before it belonged to Brits don't know whether it still does though, but I can tell you the kitchen isn't that small at all. It's really a nice house. I know some other people just a street away & the house next door to them on just a bit bigger section sold for $685k.
Weren't you btought up in Ashburton lapsedkiwi (or am I thinking of someone else?) This house is up by the airpot just off Seafield Rd & there's only about 5-6 lsb on that road so really it's the posh end of town.

Yep - lived there from age 8 to age 17 and had a great time. We lived in the other end of town mostly - Tinwald - then moved to Racecourse Road, but I know the area where this house is - property has certainly gone up quite a lot since I was living there!

I've never changed my user name, it just amuses me when others do. So are you BWW too? You seem to have similarly jaundiced opinions.

This is excellent. Especially since I just gave Bowwowwowow some karma.
I was similarly amused when I was mistaken for a certain "Burt Badger"

This is obviously a meaning of the word "funny" that I hadn't been aware of - must be the UK-US language barrier.

and of course, you must brace yourself for the inevitable personal attacks,
which despite my opinions, have never ventured into personal ridicule,
or slights on a person's post. I guess in that, my language is very
different.

Funny to myself mostly. It takes courage to take a contrary opinion,
and of course, you must brace yourself for the inevitable personal attacks,
which despite my opinions, have never ventured into personal ridicule,
or slights on a person's post. I guess in that, my language is very
different.

It was all a personal joke to myself really.
Recently I found some posts on the "Moving away" parts of the forum
from a couple of years ago by a Canadian woman. I could have written
some of them, at least in spirit.
Sorry to get off the topic.
By the way, I've been to Ashburton several times, and quite liked it for a visit. There's an excellent but pricey yarn/wool spinning store
somewhere in Ashburton, or very near.

That probably is Ashburton - there's a very successful spinning wheel factory there, and there used to be a woolen mill in the 70s.
