How much do you reckon this house would be worth?
 

I hate this 'tender' way of buying a house, especially when you are not a kiwi and have no idea about how much something might be worth.

Hopefully going on our reccie end of this year beginning of next - and then if we like it we will look to move asap.

Cool. Lucky you! Where do you think you might want to live? We were thinking Christchurch. We lived in Wellington for a year a few years ago which we really loved, but for our permanant move we want to be somewhere else.

I am just finishing secondry teacher training, so have to get a couple of years experience before we can move :(

is about $300k, soooo your one should be in the 5s or so, certainly not 800k+

I live in Ashburton & know where that lifestyle property is. It's in a really nice part of the town where lifestyle blocks go for anything from $480k to $700k+.
Ashburton isn't as cheap as you may think. House prices shocked my SIL from Auckland who thought it had to be as cheap as chips down here. It's not if you want a decent place.

I reckon that the one you are looking at would be more like $500k, but it's hard to pick - really depends on where it is exactly, good area, bad area, rural, near to town etc etc.

Have a look at www.helpsellmyproperty.co.nz for recent Harcourts sale prices in the area, to get a feel for what it could be worth.

www.qv.co.nz is also useful, you can pay for a search on the property, which will tell you what recent sale prices were in the area, and the sales history on that property - then using the local stats for price growth you can usually get a feel for what the current owner is looking for.

www.wises.co.nz is a useful map for seeing where different streets are.

Ashburton is a nice little town, close to lots of fun outdoorsy stuff like skiing and fishing.

I'd say between $700-$800 myself, going on what i saw while in was out there in June.

I wouldn't have thought it would go for as cheap as $500...i didn't see any as cheap as that for that size

If it was me , i would send a mail to the Land Agent dealing with this house, he will tell you the expected price (a bit exagerated of course)
