Default How many crashes

Just back from spending an entire month travelling around europe. During that time which included quite some time
in Paris, Rome, London, Manchester and all the connecting motorways I didnt see any car carnage at all.
Have been back in NZ for 48 hours and have already seen two multi car pile ups on the motorways, isn't NZ great

Hope you had a good time. Mr S has vowed never to drive in Italy again after our trip earlier this year. Didn't help that him being a kiwi meant he couldn't get his head round lane discipline My 'help' was taken as nagging when he got really stressed

We didn't see any crashes either.

We lived in Kent, so used to pop over to France/Belgium regularly and we often saw crashes, especially just as we left the port in Calais . Of course, we often saw crashes on M20, which was full of foreign reg lorries and the crashes often involved them unfortunately.

Where you get motors, lorries and impatient/drunk/stupid/inexperienced (people in general!), you will get crashes!

It's amazing how many of NZ road deaths involve people been thrown from vehicles through not wearing seatbelts.

...which I find quite encouraging. We have a bad road toll, but it's mainly the stupid people who don't wear seat belts. A bit like there is quite a lot of violent crime, but if you don't live in South Auckland and/or have certain ethnicity, you're mor or less immune. Ditto obesity

There are at least 5 deaths each day due to car crashes in UK (apparently). Every time I travel on the A30 here in Devon I see a smashed up car at the side of the road.
Guess it depends where you are when they happen hey?

Interesting, but I think you'll find that NZ roads are far worse than UK.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ted_death_rate

as someone who used to teach peeps to ride motorbikes, (a while back I admit), I think people, in general, in the UK have a much better understanding of road conditions, vehicle attributes, personal limitations (like drink driving), than they do here.

I'd not want to take the driving test back home now I took mine when I was still wearing flares and I even failed it then Too cocky by half was the comment by the examiner. The test now is much, much harder.

The problem I see now in the UK is those who fail the tests, just go away and drive anyway. I seem to remember reading an article that said something like every 50th car in the UK is either un-insured, un-mot'ed or driven by an unlicenced driver

I bet every 20th car here would fail its WOF if checked. The state of some of the tyres I see on cars is frightening.

As for driving standards - apparently there were around 800 road incidents reported this weekend!
