Unhappy Help - Qualification recognition

Please help - we're new to all of this. I'm composing an EOI for a Skilled Migrant Visa (based on work experience) - hubby has 10 years Army and I have 9 years Personal Assistant/Secretary in Information Technology/Software. Trying to see whether our qualifications would be recognised as well... I have a Certificate of Higher Education in Psychology and Performing Arts and my husband has a Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training. I have searched and searched and I cannot find it written clearly anywhere whether the qualifications have to be in an area of Skills Shortages. Is it just ANY qualification, or does it have to relate to the skills shortage list? Many thanks, Tink.x

Qualifications do not have to be in an area of skilled shortage. Qualifications do need to meet the NZ standards though to be recognised for points. If the quals are not part of the list that NZ Immigration has approved as being seen to be accepted to a certain standard, then an assessment would be needed if it would help underpin the application.

Do one of you have a job offer please? I am a bit concerned about you starting an EOI based on work exp only.

as BEVS says you can claim for qualifications that have been gained from an approved establishment, but you will get less points for them if they are not related to a skilled list qualification.

As PA is on the the skills list you could uplift a visa if you get a offer of work from an accredited company have at least three years of relevant recognised work experience and your employment, or offer of employment, has an annual base salary of at least NZ$45,000.

The difficulty you may have is proving you have the relevant skills for a PA job in NZ that Immigration will accept.

Hi

Are his army qualms civilian equivalent? What is he in? I tried to emigrate after I left the mob and they counted for nowt....however you can use them as job experience providing the job is within the same area ,I.e I was a medic now a nurse, because it gives you specialist knowledge which links directly to your skilled job

Lightbulb How can we do this!? Need advice...

I'm actually SO confused by the whole process. don't worry, we won't be submitting any EOI until we're sure and I'll keep searching for job offers in the meantime.

our story...
my partner was a PTI by trade in the army (served 9 years), but not a senior rank. he left two and a half years ago, became a Personal Trainer with a Level 3 Diploma and has now rejoined as a reservist (this month), so is a Personal Trainer (Fitness Instructor) and a Private in the army.

I am currently working as a Traffic Officer for Highways England (12 months), which I believe is similar to the role of Highway Patrol in Auckland, but not the equivalent of Police. I would potentially be interested in joining the Police with the aim to become Roads Policing once I had completed my two years probation.

My confusion is this. I can't get a job offer with the Police until I have a visa, but potentially can't get a visa until I have a job offer. My work experience up until now has been as a Personal Assistant/Secretary as I had a complete career change a year ago. Some of that time was spent in Information Technology/Software Industries (future growth).

It is our dream to live in NZ, but everywhere I turn everyone is so negative. :'( I don't want to give up.

My husband's work experience as a 'Defence Force - Other Ranks' has surely got to count for something as it's on the skills shortage list. I think my work experience would be different as I am not currently using my work experience in my current role. Or does it still count, even if I don't intend to go into that field?

Please somebody help, there must be a way, I just haven't found it yet. The whole process is mind boggling, but I just can't bring myself to give up on our dream yet.

We also have qualifications, but I don't know how that works either.

I have:
Certificate in Higher Education in Performing Arts and Psychology (Oxford Brookes)

My husband has:
City & Guilds Level 2 Mechanical Maintenance (including tanks)
Level 2&3 Fitness Instructing & Personal Training (Global International)

Any help would be appreciated. x

Fitness trainer is not on any lists so thats probably a no go.

You cannot become a police officer until you are already a resident or a citizen, so that is also a no go.

As I said previously you would need to be looking at PA work as that is on the skills list and you would need to prove that you have the skills relevant to be a PA in NZ.

Your qualifications will only count if they are from a recognised establishment that is listed on the Immigration site.

The only other option is a bit of a risk but if you are both under 30 you could apply for a working holiday visa which would allow you to come over for 12months and work some of that time and or you can get a 23mth visa but again you can only work 12mths of that. The visa is primary for holidays and the jobs are just meant to get you day to day money and you would need to have a certain amount of money saved per month and have saved money for exit tickets out. but it could be an option

We don't mean to sound 'negative' as such. It is more about taking apart what you do have to see if could fit at all with what NZ wants. If your dream is to come to New Zealand , then we'll try to help with that. ( I'm in NZ BTW)

My husband's work experience as a 'Defence Force - Other Ranks' has surely got to count for something as it's on the skills shortage list.
It would count if he was looking to transfer UK Defence Force to NZ Defence Force, although I am not certain of the eligibility criteria at this moment in time.

My husband has: City & Guilds Level 2 Mechanical Maintenance
Obviously there is not much call for maintaining tanks on the streets of NZ.

However
, it is my opinion that what you guys should be looking to underpin is the above part C&G qual in Mechanical Maintenance. This could be a way in for you both. Ideally it would be an NVQ / C&G level 3 & perhaps your OH can look into furthering the level.

For instance. A Mechanical Engineer Technician (312512) is on the New Zealand Immigration Immediate Shortage List. What this means is that any NZ employer would be free to offer an overseas person a job in that occupation. The overseas person and their partner would apply for temporary work visas to get them here and working. It is job offer first , then visa.

For you as a former PA, this occupation is not in shortage here in New Zealand. However NZ does have a list of 500 accredited employers that would be able to offer an overseas person a position if they fitted the bill. What that would mean is that you need to gain that job offer and then you and your partner would go for a work to residence visa.
Here is the list of accredited employers. It would mean you approach each one to try for that job offer.

As it stands ,from what has been written , one of you needs a firm job offer first. With the occupations you have stated there is little point in submitting an EOI unless you have 140 points.

To be clear.

I can't get a job offer with the Police until I have a visa,
No. You cannot enroll for the NZ police until you are an NZ resident.

but potentially can't get a visa until I have a job offer.
Correct. It is a job offer first from an employer allowed to offer the work to an overseas person. Then it is a work visa.

My work experience up until now has been as a Personal Assistant/Secretary as I had a complete career change a year ago
.

This is seen as skilled but is not in shortage here in NZ. Further you do need the work exp and possibly the quals to compete with NZ home growns.

Some of that time was spent in Information Technology/Software Industries (future growth).
Future growth mostly relates to those with degrees in this area.

I am not sure why you mention Highways Patrol in Auckland.
