Exclamation House building insurance - hikes in premiums.

Crike !

I was prepared for something of a rise in our housing building insurance premium but I wasn't quite prepared for a 47% increase Not sure what I thought now. Probably somewhere around 33% I suppose.

Earthquake cover is a 200% rise. 3 times that of last year.
AMI premium is up overall by around 40%. The rest with an increase in tax . 35% .

Rats! I need to find some dosh from somewhere. That's Mr BEVS sweeties & beer fund curtailed.

Ratbag

We're with AMI for house , contents and car ins. The house build insurance is' premium cover' so excess is $200 except for glass or sanitary fixtures where the excess is nil.

I was with AMI, when we got our renewal through. Had all three with them, but with the ridiculous increase in buildings insurance compared to last year, i got a much better quote from Fintel. Asked AMI if they'd price match and they said no. Am now with Fintel having saved myself a small fortune...

Ours went up with State 30%, but then the whole of NZ is considered an earthquake zone.
Just take a look at Geonet to see how many we get in a year.

I do know this. I've lived here knocking 9 years now & experienced several rattles .
AMI and State were both owned by AIG so your premium would have gone up in a similar way.

So.
I phoned Fintel who stated it would be better to give me a Tower quote. Fintel is part of Tower it seems

Fintel House Insurance is $250 cheaper BUT the excess thingy is $1000 , not the current $200 we have with AMI.

Home contents is around the same but again a $1000 excess thingy instead of $200

Car ins was no different really.

State, AA, Vero or NZI?

I'd say go shopping BEVS, they're pulling the wool over your eyes with that one.

Anyone else want to start an insurance company with me?

(should be) doing some work for them at the moment.....
but don't let that put you off........

(cause if it's not Lumley then it's IAG, Vero, Zurich, AIG, QBE, FM, etc)

Just got our Buildings renewal through, nearly 50% increase on last year, which was a 30% increase itself on the year before..., so in two years gone from paying around $350 to just under $1000....
