Have you done a recce trip or are you moving here sight-unseen? Whereabouts are you hoping to move to in the Wellington area?

Hi Dawn.
Welcome to this little forum. Have some Karma to start you off.
Plenty of folk here live in and around the Welly area. They seem a lively bunch

I have replied to your other post in the 'plumbers' section.

If you have a minute , I would be very pleased to know what NZIS required from your husband by way of qualification confirmation to allow him to claim points for his trade. Did you send in a PGDB assessment result please?
NZIS have recently changed their rules re the plumbing trade and now state they require plumbers to be NZ registered in order to claim points for their trade. This is not possible to gain unless you are in NZ and have sat the 4 day exam and assessments. I have been trying to gain a definitive answer from NZIS but have not had a satisfactory result.
I would be very interested to hear from you on this. THanks

Hiya Maz
Nice to hear from you.The whole family came out for a month Feb 2007.We travelled round a bit and stopped with friends in Wanganui and Paraparaumu. Decided on Wellington because it seems a pretty central point between the two islands and Auckland just seemed like home away from home and we don't want that.I have been looking at the Upper Hutt and Brooklyn areas amongst others. Where are you? Trying to find a nice area for schools with lots of family things to do.

Thanks Dawn

Thanks for the reply. Our contact person at Immigration has offered us an I.T.A. under three conditions.
1.Get Les's qualifications assessed by the PGDB.
2.The PGDB assessment must demonstrate that the qualification is acceptable for registration in N.Z.
3. We must also submit formal evidence of this assessment from the PGDB.
We also have a reply from Kern Uren at the PGDB with the new " Immigration Qualification Assessment System ( IQAS ) application process. Once they have received the application along with evidence asked for and the fee ( non refundable of course ) you will be contacted within 14 working days advising you of the initial outcome of the evaluation of the documentation. We contacted Kern through the PGDB website and he has kept us up to date with the new process and also emailed us the immigrants guide to the new system. The limited certificate still applies. This is were we are up to at the present time. Hope to speak to you soon.

We looked at Brooklyn a bit, but it's dead expensive. And the Hutt Valley just didn't really appeal to us, probably because we wanted to be closer to the sea. There's also a risk of flooding that seems more prevalent in the Hutt.

We're in a new Porirua suborb called Aotea. We're zoned for Papakowhai School which our daughter is flourishing at and loves it there!. We can just see the Porirua inlet, but also have a cracking mountain view from our house.

There are a bunch of Brits on this site, that are in the Porirua area, the Porirua Posse , and we tend to socialise not a small amount.

Thank you so much for this. It is so helpful. I'd bung you more karma but I have to spread it around first.

It is such a relief to read that NZIS will still accept the preliminary assessment result letter from the PGDB ,provided it is a positive outcome.

Yes. You & the NZ employer must uplift a PGDB limited licence once he starts work.
I do hope your husband finds the new Registration procedure for overseas plumbers OK. Previously , you just needed to pass the Registration exam which was bad enough. Now it is a 4 day event and several thousand dollars.

I have literally a 5-minute drive to Porirua station, and the fast train takes 17 mins, the slow one 22 mins.

Just my $0.02 worth, but for schools I would stick to Papakowhai and the Paremata and Whitby schools.

You are most welcome and of course that's more than fine. Happy New Year 2008! Do post more in the main forum, too, as that's where the majority of people hang out.
