Holy Grail Products
In my quest to find that illusive piece of decent hard cheese that doesn't turn to butter the moment it touches the grater or doesn't crumble into a thousand pieces when you try to slice it. Please someone must have found something by now.
What new Holy Grail products you have adapted to in NZ and where do we need to go to get them. What do you think is the best cheese, the nicest bacon, the loveliest pies.. you get the drift.
I'll make a start with bacon, as I finally found my Holy Grail in Pokeno bacon available at Nosh Foodmarket - its compares well with prices of other supermarket brands and I therefore now go out of my way to get it.

Re: Holy Grail Products
I go to Farro's to get Wensleydale cheese from Hawes now & again. It's the only cheese I like, so I treat myself with 100g every few months.
I think someone was asking about short grain rice not so long ago. I found some yesterday in Orewa New World. So it's Lancashire Hotpot followed by rice pudding for us dinner tonight.
After 6.5 years in NZ, I still haven't adapted & still get Brit products when I can. Homepride flour just can't be beaten in my view. It's much finer than the the NZ stuff.
I have adapted well to NZ Sav Blanc though

I like Vintage Mainland cheese. Also quite partial to Whittakers 72% cocoa Dark Ghana chocolate.
I'm shopping more at the butchers and local fruit and veg shop - not many of them left in my part of London.

These Pokeno Bacon people make Gammon Steaks! Yes, Gammon Steaks!
It has been so long since I have eaten a gammon steak that I am not completely sure, but they look exactly like a gammon steak should. I am looking forward to trying these, it has been a long time.

At the Supermarket tonight I noticed something interesting that I had to bring home.

It has been so long since I last ate one of these that I can't really remember enough to do a like for like comparison between a Pokeno Gammon Steak and the ones that I used to get from the supermarket back in the UK.
But you will want to know that we were very happy with the experience and will be doing it again! They are not too bad price-wise either - $7.60 for two 200g steaks.

After having done extensive research I finally have a favourite 'local' biscuit to have with my Sunday afternoon tea: Arnotts Scotch Finger Chocolate Biscuits.
They're certainly up there on the podium with McVities Chocolate Digestives.

I'd like a decent Pork pie that is: a) easily available - i.e. not having to drive across town to buy it, and: b) affordable.
Good bacon is a scandalous price here, but ham seems reasonable - would've thought they were more closely relative in cost.
