Default Holiday money?

We are travelling over for 3 weeks, never been before.

Can you use travellers cheques like in America, where you can use them like a cheque.

Regards
Bryan

Don't waste time with traveller's cheques - get a Nationwide account and use the ATMs free of charge anywhere in the world!

Yes. You can exchange travellers' cheques at any bank. However, I've never seen anybody use travellers' cheques to purchase anything in a shop or to pay for a meal. The Nationwide ATM thing that was mentioned is probably a better option because you can access cash when the banks are closed.

if you apply now you will get your nationwide card in time. British cards do work, I used mine when I was over there. It just charges you 2% each time if you use any bank but nationwide

We took cash for spending money and paid for accommodation and some meals with a CC that racked up air miles for us.

Better still- get a Post Office Credit card without needing to open a current account with them- set up DD with own bank and all credit transactions are free of fees.
Only PO and Nationwide do it.
Still take a few Tr. Ch. they can be cashed just about anywhere I think- but I tended to use banks. They liked the Sterling Notes in some places and I got a really good deal re- exchange rates- but that was back in the days when the £ was strong and the dollar weak. Looks like it's the other way round now and likely to stay that way for a while.
Hope the PO info helps.

my friend applied online (very recently) and got her card about 10 days later. You don't need the full current account, just a debit card that will allow you to use ATMs.
