If you are looking at the far north, then pixi-dust has a wee holiday cottage on their property which I am sure would be lovely & you would be well looked after.
I think they are up around Kerikeri .About 20 minutes from Paihia, the Bay of Islands and the Treaty grounds at Waitangi etc.

I do! ( thanks BEVS)
we are quite far north though, maybe further than you were thinking about.
But it's here

and can be booked through me or bookabach And it's very lovely but I'm biased!

I don't think you're going in school holidays so you shouldn't have any problems. When we went on our reccie last year we pre-booked some motels on the internet, using AA travel as a guide www.aatravel.co.nz. Others we just turned up and booked.
When we did have one problem where there was a double booking, the motel were very helpful and called another one for us, they were full but they immediately got onto another one and found us a room. We found all the motel owners seemed to know each other and were quite happy to call around for us. There were 4 of us (2 ads & 2 kids) needing one room so the choice was more limiting.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll have an amazing time. I think the AA site has travel distances times as well. We found it took longer than we imagined to get from one place to another. When the map says 'state highway 1' for example we imagined a fast road, but it's not always the case.

Don't know how much budget is an issue( save pennies for when you move permanently)- but worth considering backpacker hostels - much cheaper than motels which can be a bit sterile - but ofcourse not luxurious - enjoy your research

Hi Angela and Jim,
Have a look at my "classifieds", I have a few options in the Tauranga area if you've got here on your list? PM me for details.
