Re: The Hobbit
The red carpet starts outside our building so should make for an interesting day. Not sure I fancy seeing the film though.

Re: The Hobbit
It will be brilliant
Friend of mine went up to see the Hobbiton set and completely loved it so it is sure to be good.
What's the harm in fun .
It's what is good about life innit.

The carpet will run down from the cinema along Courtenay Place to Taranaki Street.

Re: The Hobbit
It does look good from the trailers. And the Hobbiton set is pretty amazing. It was almost ready fro filming when we visited.
One question I have is why is Wellington Council spending $1.1m promoting the film? Why isn't Peter Jackson or Warner Brothers footing the bill?

Re: The Hobbit
I like the idea of NZ getting a premier but like Rob I wonder why wellington has to fork out when Warner Bros will be getting the mega bucks.
The other thing, someone told me that this book has been strung out into 3 films! WTF! I'm getting a bit fed up of being taken by the studios.
And lastly, anyone been in Wellwood airport recently? If you haven't it's worth a quick look

I'm going to a midnight screening in Auckland on the general opening night, and then again with the family about a week later. Looking fwd to it heaps.

Re: The Hobbit
Most travellers have seen it before (ALL on their return flight...)
The info can't change (seatbelt, exits, brace position, lifejackets, oxygen mask)
The sequence can't change
The narrative hardly changes (and then carefully...)
The setting can't change
The props can't change (seatbelt, lifejacket, oxygen mask)
Now within those limits come up with something different! Amazes me that they do - but Air NZ has some great themed pre-flight briefings....

Re: The Hobbit
Agreed
Though getting Richard Simmonds involved a while back was very left field
Back to the OP - I'm massively looking forward to the Hobbit, it releases on the 16th of Dec here in Blighty.
Sadly I have to admit that I've read none of Tolkien's books, in fact I don't read much at all, much to my wife's chargrin, who reads all sorts; Terry Pratchett, Robert Jordan, George R R Martin, Tad Williams ... a bit of theme there for the literary buff among you.
Nonetheless, I love the LOTR trilogy hence my excitement about The Hobbit.
